Dressing for the Holidays

When I think about getting dressed in December, my outfits fall into one of three categories:

1) Going Out for Festive Fun (think flirty, sequins, evening looks)

2) Family Get Togethers (cozy but still fun and festive)

3) Lounging by the Fire (ultimate comfort and ease)

I thought I’d share some of my current favorite pieces in case you wanted some inspiration for feeling your best when you get dressed this holiday season!

Going Out for Festive Fun

Ok so the assignment here is: sequins, bows, dresses, skirts and anything else that makes you truly feel like IT IS the season.

Starting off strong, I love a sequin full length dress that screams HOLIDAYS while still being warm for those frigid nights. Perfect with a mule like this to keep your toes comfy and a festive earring that you could also wear with a sweater and denim. I also love this cocktail length dress and this cream satin one which I would pair with this bag and these shoes if I’m getting specific. If a dress isn’t your thing, sequin pants will be quite alright.

For something a little more subdued, we look to satin. I love (and just ordered) this set but also love this slip skirt which I’d pair with these earrings, this bag and these shoes. I also am obsessed with brown right now, so this fits the bill for me. These earrings would be fun to dress it up.

To class it up for an office party, I’m looking to a dress with a twist, this red showstopper, this somewhat glittery yet very demure cream sequin strapless dress or finally this power suit, all of which I’d dramatize with a fun eye and an eye-catching evening bag.

For a pop of color, I’m looking at this green dress paired with matching earrings or adding this bright blue bag to a more neutral outfit.

Family Get Togethers

For the families that like to pull out all the stops, I’m wearing this black cocktail dress with classic black flats. For something a bit more subdued, I love this sweater paired with these trousers, topped off with this easy jacket. If you want to dress up jeans and a tee, I can’t recommend a sparkly belt or earrings enough. Another option for dressing up a plain outfit - this fleecy jacket would be perfect for the fashion forward meets outdoor family.

I’d be lying if I said cardigans weren’t the foundation upon which my family get together outfits were built. I love this grey cableknit, or this black cropped cardigan which I’d pair with these trousers and these velvet mules if I was a member of Logan Roy’s family. For more of a Lower East Side look, I’d swap out the trousers for dark denim, a chunky loafer, and a great pair of earrings. With a leather jacket of course.

My go to around the holidays is also The Everywhere Dress in Night (seen above) or Olive (styled here). It’s easygoing, flattering, comfortable and can be dressed up with heels or down with a cardigan. It’s 20% off right now.

If you’re tired of getting dressed, why not just add a killer coat, sherpa vest or cropped jacket to whatever makes you comfiest (I won’t judge if that’s last night’s Christmas PJs).

Lounging By The Fire

Speaking of PJs, they are definitely an acceptable all day choice in December in my books. I love this peachy pink pair and this cozy set. While you’re at it, highly recommend this face mask and this rich cream for that ultimate glazed donut look. If you do venture out into the great outdoors, throw on this vest or this one, add a toque, some sunnies and the most adorable sherpa boots and call it a day (or an outfit for that matter).

For something a little more pulled together, we love a matching sweater set (I fully would host in this outfit as well). I love this more casual one too. Sweater pants are where it’s at if you didn’t know already. I also love an oversized button down with baggy jeans. I’m not a huge sweatpants gal but if I were, these would be it for me.

I’m never opposed to a sweatshirt (love this one and this one too) and leggings, esp if I want to motivate myself to get out of the house for a walk later. Don’t forget cozy socks.

My NUMBER ONE piece for lounging by the fire, though, is our Waffle Knit Robe for the whole family, which we also just launched in three new colours. OW is still 20% off sitewide through Dec 15 (minus our new colors).

Happy dressing! x
